How the Camel got his Hump Summary

The poem tells a story about how a camel got its hump. The poet states that in the beginning of the world, everything was new. The animals started working only for humans. The story is about a camel that lived in the middle of a hurling desert. He ate sticks and thorns and was unwilling to work for anyone. Whenever someone spoke to him, he would say, 'Humph!'.

On Monday morning, the horse went to him. He asked her to come out and sprint. But as usual, the camel said, 'Humph!' The horse told this thing to the man. After some time, a dog came near the camel and asked him to work. But then, the camel said 'Humph!' Later, the bull came to him. According to her habit, the camel also gave her the answer to 'Humph'.

The man called the horse, dog and bull. He asked them about the camel. The three animals told him what had happened. Even after listening to them, the man asked them to work twice to compensate for the camel's work. This made the three furious and angry. He decided to organize a panchayat. In the panchayat, the genie of all varnas came.

During the panchayat, the horse complained of the camel to the jinn. They told him that the camel wouldn't work all the time and only Humph! 'He will say. The Jinn promised him that he would cure the camel.

Djinn found a camel in the desert where he was looking at his reflection in the water. He asked the camel to work but as usual the camel said 'Humph!' As soon as the camel spoke these words, he saw her beautiful back pat. It was very strange. The camel was very proud of its beautiful back but now it turned ugly.

The genie explained to the camel that it was his own hump. He is only responsible for this because he did not work. Djinn now asked the camel to work but he said that he could not work due to this hump. He told the camel that as he did not work for three days, with this hump, he can now work for three days without eating or drinking. Since that day, the camel has a hunch but still, he has not learned to behave.
