Bepin Choudhury's Lapse of Memory Summary
The beginning of the story tells us about a man named Bepin Chaudhary. It was his habit to go to a bookstore and buy books of his choice. One day on such a journey, a man visits her. He tells Bipin that his name is Parimal Ghosh and that he is an old acquaintance of his Ranchi visit.
At first, Bepin is convinced that the man is confusing him for someone else. However, Parimal was confused when Parimal revealed personal details about him. Bipin cannot remember the man he was talking about. In fact, he never went to Ranchi.
Then the man says that Dinesh Mookerji was also on the trip, he can confirm it with him. Bepin does not pay much attention to this and is aware of his life. However, this bothers him so he confirms the incident with Dinesh which also verifies the story.
Now, Bipin is very confused because he cannot just remember that particular incident. He starts worrying and feels that he is losing his memory. Now, Bipin asks the doctor for a remedy. This confuses the doctor as well as he has not seen such a case before.
The doctor advises Bipin to come to Ranchi. He thinks that revisiting that place can bring back memories, he thinks he has forgotten. Bipin also takes a trip there but still, he does not remember a single thing. He now begins to worry and calls the doctor who will come later.
Before the doctor arrives, Bipin learns the truth. His friend Chunni Lal made a practical joke on him for revenge. Once, Chunni was in dire need of a job and Bipin could not help her so she avoided him.
Thus, Chunni did all this to avenge him. This offends Bepin but also relieves him that he is fine and is not losing his memory. Finally, when the doctor arrives, he lies to her. Instead of admitting that it is a prank, he says that coming back to Ranchi brought back memories of him and that he is fine now.
This is a very funny story that tells us about a practical joke that a friend plays with another friend despite not helping him in his time of need. It teaches us that you will reap as you sow.
