The Accidental Tourist summary

In the beginning, the author claims that he is not very good at living in the real world. He says that he finds it difficult to do the simplest things that other people do easily. For example, whenever he stops at a hotel, he has to go to the hotel desk several times to remember what his room number is. He discovers a lot of difficulties in the cinema hall. He claims that he is easily confused.

The author tells the story of his last family trip during Easter. He was flying from Boston to England for a week. At Logan Airport in Boston, the author remembered that he had enrolled in British Airways' frequent flyer program and that the card was in the bag he was carrying around his neck. This was the beginning of his troubles.

The zip of the bag was stuck; The author pulled it harder and harder until the edge of the bag opened and its contents were scattered on the floor. These included nearly a hundred pages of documents, his passport, English money, film, and a 14-ounce tin of pipe tobacco. He was horrified at how expensive tobacco would be in England. Then he saw that he had bitten his finger on the zip and now he was bleeding heavily. Being normally uncomfortable with bleeding, he felt it was appropriate to be hysterical because it was his blood that was flowing. He says that even his hair had become so confused and helpless that he went into panic. At this point, his wife looked at him with pure surprise: he found it hard to believe that he had traveled to make a life.

The author says that such accidents happen frequently when he travels. He recounts an incident on an airplane, where he bent at the right time to tie his shovel to the point that the person sitting in front had recoiled his seat - the writer was trapped in the event of an accident and only to the feet. The passenger had managed to free himself in the claw, the passenger sat beside him.

He says that in another flight, he spilled a soft drink on the lap of a woman sitting next to him. When the flight attendant handed him a second drink, he spit it on the woman as well. He says that he still does not understand how it happened. He remembers his hand acting out of control - like a cheap prdp in a 1950s horror film.

The author then narrates the worst experiences of his journey. In one flight, the writer was writing important ideas, and while doing so, he was absent-mindedly sucking the end of his pen. He then spoke with a charming young woman for about twenty minutes, after which she made her way to the restroom. There he saw that his pen had leaked and his mouth, chin, tongue, teeth and gums had turned dark blue and would remain so for several days.

The author confesses that it is his dream to be polished and refined. For just once, he wants to be able to get up from the dinner table without disturbing everything on it; While seating yourself in the car, fold your coat properly and do not close the door while the half is out; And wear light colored trousers without tarnishing it with things like ice cream, motor oil, etc. He says that now that he travels with his family on planes, his wife asks the children to remove the lid from the food box and warns them when he cuts the pieces of meat. When he flies alone, he neither eats nor drinks. He simply sits still and calm, sometimes with his hands on them preventing him from going out of control and causing accidents. According to him, this method is very effective in keeping their clothes clean.

Even though he flies over 100,000 miles in a year, the writer never gets a flying mile. He finds it quite disappointing, especially when he sees people flying to foreign places like Bali in the first class thanks to his flyer miles. The reason is that when he investigates, he mostly forgets to ask for it; And when he does so, the airlines still fail to record it. She is also often told that she is not entitled to any flyer miles. For example, on a flight to Australia, he was expected to gain a large number of frequent flyer miles. To his dismay, the clerk told him that since the card was a w. Bryson is named after him and the ticket b. Bryson was named after him, so he was not entitled to gain any miles. He tries to explain that William and Bill have a very close relationship,

The author is resigned to the fact that he will probably not be flying from Bali any time soon; But one finds solace in the idea that he could not survive such a long flight without food.
