The Comet- I Summary
Story Comet- I start with a moonlit night of December in which a cool breeze was blowing. Indrani Debi's sleep was disturbed due to this cold air. Indrani was the wife of Dattadas, an amateur scientist.
Dutt was currently observing the stars with his telescope, named Dibya Chakshu. Dutt did not lock the door nor did he wear a sweater. This is because he was too busy with his binoculars.
For Indrani Debi, the telescope was like a cunning woman who held her husband. Dattada needed money to buy binoculars and free time to see the stars. Now at the time of retirement, he had both.
Dattada had ambitions to discover a new comet. Comets may be new because they come from distant locations of the solar system. The long tail of a comet glows in the sunlight when it approaches the sun.
Dattada was optimistic about the discovery of a new comet as other professional astronomers were more focused on galaxies. Then that night, Dutt was able to discover a new comet. Furthermore, there was no mistake in his calculations.
Dutt's discovery was published in 'Anand Bazaar Patrika'. Dutt had informed the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA), Bangalore about the location of the comet. Later, the IIA confirmed the discovery and the comet was named Comet Dutta.
Dutt did not like the many functions and receptions he was made to attend due to his introverted nature. In addition, his wife said that comets bring bad luck and so he wished the discovery never happened. Furthermore, Dutt tells him that comets have nothing to do with the problems on Earth.
At King's College, Cambridge, a letter was received by James, an astronomer, sent by John MacPherson. John told James that he would like to meet her that night and that the matter should be confidential.
Sir John MacPherson gave James a typescript to be published in 'Nature'. John tells James that the editor of 'Nature' was his friend. This was an important manuscript to be published.
James made a prediction that the comet would hit the earth. This will surely be a major catastrophe. He told Sir John that his calculations were very accurate. With the exception of some rare circumstances, collisions will certainly occur.
This collision is going to happen in exactly ten months. Due to this, living beings only live for ten months. Sir John suggested that there should be a meeting of experts and that the matter should remain a mystery to avoid terror. Sir John started preparing for an international conference.
Comet- I tell the story that not every discovery is necessarily delightful and something destructive can happen.
