A Slumber Did My Spirit Seal Summary
There is a flow of the soul of the poet in deep sleep. This is because he has no realization of the truth. He had taken his life and never thought that Lucy could get away from him. The author certainly never imagined the death of his beloved Lucy. Naturally, when Lucy died, the author was unable to bear the loss.
The poet comes to accept the truth that his beloved Lucy is not. Certainly, this acceptance was not an easy process. This is because it is very difficult to accept the death of someone whom a person loves. It is a sign of bravery to accept this bitter truth. The writer states that his girlfriend is now sedentary. Also, Lucy is now lifeless. She is now in a state where she can no longer hear. In addition, he is buried deep inside the earth. She can neither see nor hear. He is now within the earth.
Lucy is now within the Earth. The author states that Lucy will surely assimilate and become part of the Earth. What the author is talking about here is the process of decomposition. When any living creature dies, its body disintegrates. Decomposition is the process in which organic bodies break down into simple organic materials. This is the ultimate fate of every living being in the world. Lucy was no exception.
Upon the decomposition of his body, his body will become a part of the world. In addition, she will become one with rocks and stones and trees. Rocks, stones and trees are only part of the earth. So, in a way, Lucy will always be but in a different form. When he sees rocks or trees, the writer can look at him. The only difference would be that she would not talk to him or smile at him or touch him. This is because his form has now changed.
This way of thinking can definitely provide relief to a person who is dealing with grief due to the death of a loved one. This is because one does not think that their loved one has left them, rather they will think that their loved one still exists on Earth in a different form. Therefore, one can look at rocks or trees and imagine that they are seeing their loved one.
