The Treasure within Summary
This chapter is an excerpt from an interview between Mr. Hafiz Contractor and Ms. Bela Raja. Hafiz Contractor received unhappy schooling. He was good in studies in the first and second year. But he began to lose interest in studies beyond the third standard. He was scared of mathematics and had nightmares about the maths exam. He often dreamed of not knowing anything in the mathematics exam.
As a student, he was more inclined to the game and played prank over others. He was a very good player and was a Senior Champion for many years. In addition, he was the captain of the cricket team in the school.
He says that he passed his exams only by cheating and cheating. However, his principal in class 11 called him to advise him. The principal tells him that he is a good student, although he never studies. He also told the contractor that he used to take good care of him till now, but now, he has to take care of himself. He urges her to study.
The contractor followed the principal's advice and would only go for prayer, food and study. As a result, he scored 50 percent in his SSC exams. Asked by Ms. Bella if she was sentenced at school, she replied that she receives canning almost every week. However, this did not affect him as he was more interested in playing. Not only this, he was also involved in group fights and was the kingpin of the gang. He remembers that one day when he was not in the mood to study, he played 'Chor Police' for an entire hour.
After school, he wished to join the army. But his aunt and mother did not let him join the police. With some influence, he got admission in Jai Hind College. There he was to study French but being weak in French, he enlisted the help of his cousin. Her husband was an architect and eventually, she started going to her office to learn French.
One day he saw an employee drawing the details of a window which is a very advanced drawing. Seeing this, he told her that this drawing was incorrect because the drawn window would not open. He won the game and his cousin's husband asked him to draw some specific items. He did so immediately. The architect was very impressed by this and asked him to study architecture.
In the college for architecture, only 80 - 90 percent of the students were admitted. The principal allowed him to appear for the entrance examination with the condition that he would not be allowed to appear if he did not do well. He got an A + 'grade and after that, he always got first grade.
After becoming an architect, he went to meet his teacher, Mrs Gupta, who once asked him to become an architect. He says that school life made him street-smart. He closely watches a customer to understand his taste and then spontaneously makes a sketch. According to him, his drawings are his mathematics.
