Princess September Summary
In this story, the king and queen of Siam have nine daughters. The queen finds it misleading to remember all her names. Thus, the king decides his name after months. Therefore, he named the youngest of them September.
The king had a habit of gifting others on his birthday. One year on his birthday, he gave each of his daughters a green parrot in a golden cage. Rajkumar was happy and he used to spend an hour daily with him. Parrot said God save the king and beautiful Polly in seven languages'.
One morning, the princess found her parrot dead in September. She was very sad and crying. The queen told the maids not to let her sleep without sleep. But as he was to go to a party, he left her crying and left. He saw a small bird coming into his room. It started singing about the king's garden, goldfish, willow tree, etc. In all of this, she forgot to repress.
Greeting the princess, the bird asked her if he would keep her with him in place of the parrot. The bird was not beautiful. When the princess clapped her hands, she sang and she fell asleep. Fed him with his hands, bathed him as well. She took him to the king, queen and her sisters. Everyone was happy to see and hear its song. Raja was very impressed with the singing of the bird and said that he would like to hear it sing. He is tired of hearing parrots.
Other princesses were jealous of the princess since September. He asked to buy a new parrot in September but said he already had a pet bird. It sings sweet songs like a nightingale and does not require a parrot. He told her that the bird flies in and out anytime. Thus, he must be kept in a cage someday because it cannot return.
She was worried about the bird because it took a long time for her to return. Therefore, he put her in a cage. When asked by the bird, he said it would be safe from cats in the cage. The bird asked him to open the cage the next day. But he refused. Princess September asked her to sing but could not sing. It wanted to see trees, river etc. It did not even eat food.
The next day, the bird told him that if he is not free, he cannot sing and will die. He thus freed it. The bird flew, promising to return. He kept his window open and the bird returned. It sang lovely songs for her.
Princess September became very beautiful and married the King of Cambodia. However, her sisters were ugly and she was married to the king's councilors.
