A Tale of Two Birds Summary
This story is about a mother bird and her two young men in a forest. In a tall shady tree, a mother was taking care of her children. One day a severe storm came and all the trees fell down from it. A large branch hit the nest and the mother bird was killed. But fortunately, the baby birds were flown to the other side of the forest and were rescued. One of them had reached the den of robbers. The other one landed near the sage's ashram.
After a few days the baby birds grew up. One day, the king of the country reached the forest. He was hunting. After hunting, he saw a deer and started chasing him. The buck ran far into the forest. Taking the deer on horseback, the king lost his way.
The king kept on riding and reached the other side of the forest. He got off his horse and got tired and sat under a tree near the cave. Suddenly he heard a voice that hurried and robbed the person outside. Its everything - jewels, horses. The king was surprised to hear this and looked up to investigate. He saw a big, brown bird on that tree and there was a faint noise coming from the cave. Suddenly he got on the horse and ran away.
Soon he reached an ashram. The king tied his horse to a tree and sat in its shadow. Here, he heard a soft voice that greeted him and asked him to come in and rest. It also asked him to have cold water from the vessel and to be comfortable till the sage arrives. Surprised, the king looked to investigate and again found an equally large brown bird in the tree.
The bird told the king that he was right. Bird was his brother but befriended the robbers. He too became like them. Bird said that he and Hayes brothers no longer talk to each other. Then the sage entered the ashram.
The sage greeted the king and requested him to come in and be comfortable. They also offered to share their food.
The king explained the different behaviors of two birds that looked alike. He said that the forest was full of such surprises.
Rishi smiled and continued to explain the company's impact. A bird that listened to the robbers was repeating his words and the one who was with the sage was speaking slowly and greeting people. The sage asks the king to rest and offers to tell him more about the birds and the place.
