The Ball Poem Summary

The Ball Poem Summary

The poet is talking about a boy who has lost his ball. He wants to know about her and her reaction as he has lost his ball. Also, he asks himself what this boy will do after losing his ball. The poet has seen the ball go away from the boy. He says that the ball was bouncing in a happy street and falling down. This means that when the ball touched the boy's hand, it went into the street and later it fell into a nearby river.

The poet says that there is no benefit of comforting the boy by saying that he will get a second ball because he also has other balls. He says this because the boy is feeling very sad. He is completely surrounded by sorrow. He is sad because all the memories of his childhood days went down the harbor with the ball. Here the poet says that the boy is deeply saddened by the ball that has now gone into the water, reminding him of the sweet memories he once owned. This loss is unbearable for him and he is unhappy. The poet says that he cannot even ask the boy to take some money from him to buy another ball. He says this because the new ball will not bring a sense of belonging to the boy. Furthermore, the poet says that the time has come that the boy should learn the responsibility of taking care of his words.

Here the poet says that the boy needs to learn that in this materialistic world, many of his belongings will be lost. He recognizes the ball as his belongings, whether it is worldly things or in possession of those relationships. So, he says that he needs to learn to live without them no matter what. He says that no one can buy such things back for them. The poet said this because according to him money cannot buy you everything. If it buys you something materialistic, however, It will not be able to buy the feeling of belonging. He says that the boy is learning how to stand up against the feeling of lost things. This means that the boy is trying to find out the real truth of life, stating that you have to accept the sufferings of life and stand up again. This is the truth that everyone has to learn in their life. The harsh truth of standing up against the weird sorrows of life that everyone has to face.
