The Great Stone Face part 2 summary

Ernest, in The Great Stone Face-2 by Nathaniel Hawthorne, was a very simple and uneducated boy who grew old with white hair. All those years made him so intelligent and knowledgeable that people from far away cities used to come to him only to talk to him. He received them with kindness and kindness. When he spoke to the people, his face glowed and glared at the others as if it was a mild evening. The story then introduces us to another son from the valley who, with his melodious music, takes him to distant cities. He kept the Great Stone Face alive in his poems. Ernest came to know about him and when he read the poet's thoughts in his book, he wished the poet the likeness of the Great Stone Face. When the poet came to know about Ernest, he expressed a strong desire to meet her.

Thus, he returns to the valley and asks Ernest to give him a night shelter. They talked among themselves. Never before has a poet spoken with a man like Ernest, so sensible, and gentle and kind. On the other hand, Ernest was moved by living images emanating from the poet's mind. When asked, the poet told him that he was the author of the book, which Ernest was reading. Upon hearing this, Ernest compared the characteristics of the poet to the Great Stone Face, and when they did not match, he was saddened. When asked, Ernest told the poet that when he read his book, he thought that he was the man who would fulfill the prophecy but to his dismay, He was not. The poet considered himself worthy of resembling the great stone face because he knew that although his ideas were great and he had great dreams, they were only dreams and he lacked faith in his own thoughts.
