The Making of Scientist Summary 

'The Making of a Scientist' is the story of leading scientist Richard Ebright. He was a curious child from the early years of his life. He started collecting butterflies in his childhood and by the time they are in second grade, he had already collected all 25 species found in his hometown. In addition, he collected coins, fossils and rocks. One day his mother gave him a book called 'The Travel of Monarch X'. This book has been an important turning point in life and introduced him to the world of science. He experienced real science at the country science fair and in addition he understood that to win something he needed to do something extraordinary.

Later, for his eighth grade, he chose to find the cause of the viral disease, which killed almost all the Emperor Caterpillars each year. He thought that the reason for this might be a beetle, therefore, he gave the caterpillar a rose with the presence of a beetle. However, he was mistaken. His project for the science fair the following year was testing the theory that Viceroy butterflies mimicked the emperor. His project was ranked first in the zoology department and third in the country science fair.

In his second year of high school, Richard Ebright discovered an unknown insect hormone that led to his new theory on the life of cells. He tried to find the purpose of the small golden spots on Emperor Pupa's back. The project took first place at the Country Science Fair and got a chance to work at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research.

As a high school student, he continued his advanced experimentation and eventually was able to identify the hormone chemical composition. One day while looking at X-ray pictures of hormones, he got the idea of ​​his new theory which suggests that cells can read the blueprint of its DNA. Ebright and his roommate created a plastic model of a molecule to illustrate the work of DNA. It was a big jump and was published in a magazine. He graduated from Harvard with the highest honors.

He also has other interests such as public speaking, debating and being a canovist and an outsider. Furthermore, he was competitive but in good sense and always wanted to do his best. Furthermore, he possesses all the traits of becoming a good scientist.
