Gopal and the Hilsa Fish Summary
The beginning of the story tells of the season in which Hilsa fish was available. Everyone was talking about it. The fisherman was happiest because they could earn better with this huge treasure.
Hilsa fish filled the market. Everyone was surprised and happy with the availability of fish.
However, Raja was displeased with the discussion of fish. He erupted when a courtier claimed the size of the Hilsa fish he had caught. Later the king realizes his mistake.
He further said that even Gopal cannot mention about Hilsa fish. However, Gopal informs him that he can bring a huge Hilsa without discussing a word about anyone.
After a few days, Gopal dressed himself with a half-shaved face and smeared it with ashes. He wore torn clothes. Everyone noticed his presence in the rags and named him a madman, a mystic etc.
When he reached the palace; He was stopped by the guards. His lewd behavior attracted the attention of the king who wanted to see the mad visitor. No one could recognize Gopal.
When his real personality was revealed, he told him that due to his presence, no one talked about the fish. They were dragged away and their shabby clothes removed. Thus he won the challenge.
