The Shed Poem Summary
Francis Stanislas 'Frank' Flynn was born in 1906 in Sydney and died in 2000. By profession, he was an Australian doctor, writer and missionary priest.
The purpose of the poem is to make learners learn about the 'shed' and its importance. The rhythm and richness of the language is impressive. The poet talks about a shed in his garden.
Seems horrifying to stop him from entering it. Rusted and dusty windows, broken window panes, spider web in every comrade, horror stories of the presence of ghosts have frightened the poet. Yet he promises to travel on his own in the coming years.
There was a shed near the poet's house. It scared him to tell when he passed by it. The door was covered with a hanging spider web. The door was bent due to the weather.
This caused a strange sound when closing or opening the door. The poet heard the voice lying in bed. Nevertheless the poet himself decided to open a door to see everything.
He further stated that the windows were dusty and the window panes were broken. The poet felt that whenever he passed through the shed someone would see him. He decided to open the gate one day.
His brother tried to intimidate him by saying that a ghost was hiding under the rotten floor boards. He would jump on the poet's head. Yet the poet did not let his confidence wane.
The poet knew that ghosts did not exist. Rather, his elder brother used the shed as his den. The child realized the truth, so he could no longer be fooled by his brother. He dared to visit the shed one day. He was still waiting to realize the right time to come.
