I Want Something in a Cage Summary
There was a person named Mr. Purcell. He ran a pet shop. In that pet shop he used to sell his food and medicines to cats, dogs, birds etc. One day a person came to his shop. The guest was wearing a new but cheaper coat and looked deprived of money. He looked at the shop items and chose a cage. He asked Mr. Purcell "I want something in the cage".
Persal advised the person to keep some white mice. The guest settled on a pair of pigeons. The guest asked about the price. Mr. Purcell quoted $ 50 each. The guest replied that he only had $ 5. Purcell calculated that even after deducting 50 cents for expenses, he could still make a small profit; Hence accepted this proposal.
Now the guest asked Mr. Purcell to estimate the time in which the guest had earned the money. Purcell was suspicious and did not say anything. Guest answered 10 years old and walked out of the shop. Now Purcell saw the guest releasing the pigeon from his hands. Purcell felt like being duped.
The story here tells that the guest had been in jail for 10 years and knew the importance of freedom. This story tells that we should not imprison any living animals nor harm them in any way.
