The Midnight Visitor Summary
This story is about the funny secret agent Ausable. He was with Fowler, a writer friend. He planned to spend time in the evening. Faller then realized that she was the exact opposite of what he had imagined about her. Ausable told Fowler that he was thinking wrong and that very soon he would see a very important report, which would change the future of the country. Then both went to their rooms. But, as they enter the room, another man with a gun, Max, was standing in the room. He asked them to be comfortable till reports related to the missiles.
It was a truly adventurous experience for Fowler while meeting the secret agent. Meanwhile, Ausable begins a story about an imaginary balcony under the window of her room. While this thing was going on, someone was constantly knocking at the door. Asable said police regularly came to the door to examine him and his room. Max points his gun at the two of them, saying that he must be waiting in the balcony and during this time Asable should be sent to the police otherwise he will shoot them.
As the doorknob turns on loudly, Max jumps out of the window and they hear a loud scream. The door opens and a waiter comes in. The waiter states that he brought the wine that Asable ordered. He places bottles, trays and glasses on the table and leaves there. Fowler is surprised to see all of that. Fowler asked him about the police. Ausbal then replied that there was no police. Fowler again asked about Max, who was waiting in the balcony outside the window. The Assemble then replied that the person would not return because there was no balcony.
This shows Ausable's quick wit as he took advantage of the situation and successfully harassed Max. Under his nervousness, he jumped out of the window without any thought. He jumped from the top floor of the hotel and therefore died. Thus, Ausable overtook Max and saved himself from a very dangerous situation.
