The Monkey and the Crocodile Summary

The Monkey and the Crocodile Summary

A monkey lived on a tree laden with fruits. He was able to give the fruits according to his heart's desire. He had no friends with whom he would talk, so he felt lonely. One day a crocodile arrived on the river bank. The monkey asks him if he lives in that river and if he wants to get some fruit. The crocodile gently greeted him in the morning and told him that he had come in search of food for himself and his wife. Crocodile also thanked him for offering the fruit.

The monkey fed the crocodile some fruit and threw it. The crocodile found it very tasty, thanked the monkey for this and asked if he could bear the fruit on his next visit as well. The monkey assured that he could give as much fruit as he wanted. They asked him to come again. The crocodile started visiting him daily. He used to eat the fruit thrown by the monkey and also took some home for his wife. They both became good friends. He spoke patiently. He talked about birds and animals, about villagers and their challenges in raising a good crop due to low rainfall.

One day the crocodile met with a monkey later than usual. His wife got angry for waiting and managing all the crocodiles alone. He asked her who was the friend she loved so much. The crocodile replied that he was a monkey and lived on a fruitful tree. It was he who gave him fruit daily.

His wife sarcastically replied that the monkey was good and she wanted the monkey to cook her meal. Crocodile shouted angrily and said that he could not kill a friend. For a change of taste, he could have a monkey to eat.

His wife asks him to bring the monkey to himself. The crocodile refused, which angered the wife. She jumped into the river leaving the children to harass the father.

The crocodile was in a difficult position because on one side it was his dear wife and on the other side it was his dear friend. But in the end, the crocodile looked towards his wife. He thought he was her life partner. Although cheating the friend was a sin, he had no choice and, therefore, decided to invite his friend.

The crocodile visited the monkey and invited him home. The monkey happily accepts his invitation and says that he is not going to swim but that he can ride on the crocodile's back.

The two began their journey and in the middle of the river, where the flow of water was very strong, the crocodile could not hide anything in its mind. He reveals the monkey that he brought to kill him. And for this he had to go under water. His wife could not live without eating the heart of the monkey. So he apologized and said goodbye to her.

After hearing that the monkey got upset. He knew that his life was in danger but he remained cold. He was intelligent. He told the crocodile that he was willing to do anything for his family. After all, what was the price of a monkey's heart in front of his wife. But why did the crocodile not tell him on the tree itself. He must have brought his heart along.

The crocodile asked innocently where was the monkey's heart? In his view, the monkey should be kept with him at all times. The monkey confidently refused and replied that it was on the tree. Therefore, he suggested that they swim back so that he could get it.

At this silly mistake the crocodile erupts and turns to return to the tree. Both laughed a lot.

The monkey climbed the tree and felt relieved. He took off one or two fruits and threw them away. He asked the crocodile to give the fruits to his wife instead of his heart because the fresh fruits were better for health. He tells her not to meet again and to say farewell forever.
Hearing that the crocodile was depressed and went back home shedding tears.
