The Wonder Called Sleep Summary

Although we do not know the cause of sleep, we all know what it is. It is a state of subliminal rest. Our body recovers itself from the fatigue of the day and feels refreshed after a good sleep. We get ready for the normal activities of the day after this happens.

Once we wake up, we are unable to remember events while sleeping. We may remember a dream, but apart from that, sleep reflects a darkness in which nothing had happened.

Many things happen in our body during sleep. Our muscles relax, heart rate slows down, body temperature and blood pressure drop down. Even brain movements slow down to stop us from thinking and acting.

The moment we wake up, our body temperature and blood pressure return to normal. Other events such as heart palpitations and breathing also become common and we forget most, if not all, dreams.

Dreaming during sleep is nothing but an activity of the mind. Some dreams are possible while some are not. Some dreams can be realistic. Dreams are important for many reasons. They help us sleep through any noise or disturbance. While we are sleeping and the alarm bell rings, we dream that the telephone bell or bell is ringing and we are awake and we go to answer it.

Some doctors say that dreams throw light on one's problems and sometimes there are solutions hidden in the dream. But although dreams can reveal problems, they cannot predict our future.

Sleep is a phenomenon that occurs for everyone. We all experience it but hardly any of us are able to think and talk about its power. Many poets have written poems on sleep.
