The Old-Clock Shop Summary

The Old-Clock Shop Summary

It was Christmas evening and it was time to close shops in the city of Salt Lake in the USA. But the lights in Ray's shop were on as he was repairing a watch he had sold. The owner of the shop was Ray, old and deaf.

After he finishes his work, when Ray wakes up, a cold wave of air from the front door touches his neck.

He came to see the shopkeeper who had come to his shop at the last minute. But as a wise and experienced man, he saw that they were not shopkeepers. He noticed that two people were young and the other was middle-aged. The younger man stopped at the door and middle aged people came to the counter. His eyes were shows the cruelty of his heart. But somehow Ray sensibly disguised his fear and slowly pushed a notepad and a pencil for him.

Notepad information brought a change on the man's face. He smiled and pointed to her ears with his gestures and shook his head from one side to the other, telling the other man that he (the shopkeeper) was deaf.

This gave Ray some time to look closely at the man and examine him, he saw the shape of the gun and the movement of the hand in the right pocket of his coat. Ray felt angry inside but his prudence told him to calm down and stay still. He asked the person writing on the notepad if he could help him. This made the man smile looking directly at Ray. It was a cruel smile as if making fun of something. He understood the reason for being in the shop and about a person standing outside at the door. Ray was looking at them as inauspicious people who were trying to do something for which they could later regret.

Ray knew by heart that these visitors needed money. Ray silently wrote a message asking if they had come to take a watch or watch. Realizing his need, Ray also pointed to a loan board filled with hanging watches and pocket watches and told him that he paid money in exchange for people's old watches and watches. He was not someone who gave people money to take some protection in return or earn interest. Rather, Ray did all he could to help the needy. It was due to his help and kind nature.

This made the elder man easier. He looked at his watch on his wrist and asked what price he could give it to him.

Ray felt that the man was a bit embarrassed. The watch was not worth much, but it was special because with it Ray can turn into a bad situation and come out safely. Realizing the man's need and helplessness that he was in such a bad act, Ray asked him what his need was? The man responded to Ray writing on the pad that he should pay whatever he was worth watching.

Ray went to his cash box and took out a fifty dollar note. He handed it to the man. This made him happy. The man expressed his gratitude. Both of them knew that the watch was not of that high price. Before leaving, the man said that he would come to get his watch as soon as possible and wish him a Merry Christmas!

The short story ended with half an hour of clocks. They all witnessed the whole incident together at that particular time. His musical bells produced a melody that spreads the message of hope and peace. The music was so melodious and impressive that it seemed as if even Ray's deaf ears were able to feel it. Everyone felt the sweet and hopeful message of goodwill towards others and peace on earth. The message of peace and goodwill spreads everywhere in the form of old clocks Merry Christmas.
