A Triumph of Surgery summary
James Alfred White is popular as James Harriet, and was also a British veterinary surgeon and writer. He has written this story A Triumph of Surgery. The story begins when Mrs. Pumphrey, a rich woman, takes her dog Tricky for a walk outside. A nearby vet saw the dog and is in shock as the dog sees a puffed sausage at each end. They then advised him to stop feeding. But Mrs. Pumphrey is not able to refuse the dog. Soon Tricky fell ill and the doctor was called.
The narrator, Mr. Herit somehow takes Tricky to her hospital for treatment, even knowing the fact that Mrs. Pumphrey will never leave the dog. He took the dog along and put a bed in it for his surgery. For two days the dog did not move much and did not eat anything. On the third day he wanted to go out and there he started playing with big dogs. He also licked bowls of other dogs to eat the leftovers.
His condition began to improve rapidly. At the same time, he started fighting for his food with other dogs. After hearing this news, Mrs Pumphrey started sending eggs to the hospital as she felt that Tricky needed energy foods after recovery. But Mr. Heriot and his companions started eating those eggs as a morning breakfast.
At the same time, to improve Trick's blood, Mrs. Pumphrey began sending liquor in bottles. But again, Mr. Heriot consumed them. Not only this, when he started sending brandy in bottles, he also consumed it. A few days later the doctor made a sensible decision and called Mrs. Pumphrey because she was too worried to take Tricky back home. Tricky was overjoyed to see her mistress and jumped into the car. Then Mrs Pumphrey said that she would never be able to thank him for all this surprise. And he said that his surgery was successful because Tricky was now cured.
