Rain on the Roof Summary
In this poem, the poet states that when the humid shadow flows (here, 'humid shadow' means dark clouds filled with water). He says that when the sky is filled with dark clouds that contain moisture, and are filled with water and are about to bring rain. Also, when these clouds float around the sky in the starry zone (refers to the sky at night which is full of stars).
Then, huge clouds that are filled with moisture, swirl in the sky. And the raindrops that look like tears falling from the sky dissipate the gloomy darkness of the night. Also, the poet is comparing the drops of rain to tears because he finds the darkness very sad. Furthermore, it seems as if it is crying and the raindrops are tears shed by it. He further says that it is like a blessing to lay in bed in his room. And listen to the sound made by the raindrops falling on the roof.
In the next part, when he hears raindrops on the roof of his house, the poet expresses his feelings. The poet says that every wrinkle on herpes is an echo in the heart. Whenever he hears the sound of rain falling on the roof his voice is repeated in his heart and in his dreams. Apart from this, he has many different and brilliant fantasies. In addition, the falling drops of rain on the roofs create many new dreams in his mind. For example, he recounts many memories of the past that come back to his mind in the form of dreams. Therefore, he listens to the patron of rain on the roof, he has many new dreams in his mind. And his memories of the past come back as dreams.
In the final paragraph, the poet introduces his mother and says that he is dreaming of his mother. As in the previous verses that rain brings memories of the past. He was the memory of his mother who is no longer alive. Long ago, her mother loved her very much and she uses him to hold her dear. In addition, she would let him sleep till daytime and show sweet dreams. When he hears a song made of rain drops falling on the roof of his room, he feels that his mother is watching him. Furthermore, the sound of rain makes him correlate his past with his present. This is why he was so impressed by the sound of raindrops on the sides of his room. Every time he hears this sound he brings back memories of the past as he reminds of his mother.
